A memoir of fear, endurance – and transformation

Living true to yourself isn’t selfish. It’s sacred. It’s the work of peeling back the layers of expectation – family, culture, fear – and finding what’s real underneath.

Other People Are Like the Weather is a raw, psychologically literate memoir about fear, identity, endurance, and the moment a woman stops trying to manage other people – and starts trusting herself.

It asks a simple but radical question: what changes when we stop trying to control the forecast, and learn instead how to stand in the storm?

In Other People Are Like the Weather, Vicki tells the gripping story of a life rebuilt under pressure – and the moment she realised that the hardest thing to overcome was not the conditions around her, but the patterns within.

Vicki's trademark is her emotional honesty: she speaks about fear, control and self-trust with a clarity that is both disarming and deeply empowering.”

At forty, Vicki Anstey walked away from the life she had built.

What followed looked, from the outside, extraordinary: elite military selection, world-record ocean rows, ultramarathons across ice and desert. But the real challenge was not physical. It was internal.

In Other People Are Like the Weather, Vicki tells the gripping story of a life rebuilt under pressure - and the moment she realised that the hardest thing to overcome was not the conditions around her, but the patterns within.

  1. Jodie

As someone in their early 20s, this book felt both reassuring and deeply inspiring. It reminded me that uncertainty, mistakes and evolving as a person are all part of becoming who you are, and that there is no shame in figuring things out along the way.

What makes this book so powerful is how raw and honest it is. It does not try to package life neatly or pretend growth is linear. Instead, it invites you to reflect, look inward and question the expectations, fears and narratives that shape the way we live.

It is rare to read something that makes you feel both seen and challenged at the same time, but this did exactly that.

A book I know I will return to again and again.
